At last ... In “En bok om Ljungby” the following is described ... Heather, broom and other flowers. The heather, in Swedish: Ljungen, represent the people of Ljungby's flower of parish. It had a great spreading among the tiny land of moraine, and even if it's forced out of its place by agriculture and silviculture, it's still in abundance occurring. Ljungen, the heather, have named farms, hills and lakes – even the whole parish. You can find it in family names, in work of arts and in a great amount of connections. The flowers of the heater has never become an abundance symbol, rather a witness of a struggling life under barren condition. In the parish of Ljungby and in our own lifetime, the heather hold a prominent position. The broom, in Swedish: ginsten, have named the soccer and gymnastics club of the parish, its plant geography have named the near by sports ground, Ginstavallen, and the broom(ginsten) has inspired to new family names in the district. In the book "Hallands växter" by E Ahlfvengren, published in Lund 1924, on page 190 Carl Holmdahl, Ottersjö, wrote the following about the protection of broom plant geography in the parish of Ljungby: "Besides, I recommend special care of the plant geography of Genista Germanica in the parish of Ljungby. Though the same, by the consequence of sharing to colonists, run the risk of extirpating, I bought a sufficiently peace of land to give them place of refuge. There is a few bushes. Don't touch them if you're lucky to find them!" The best regards to our sponsors, who promote the knowledge of our place of birth and developing the people who lives here. |
